Senior Power System Modelling Engineer
About the Engineering Services Business Unit
The Engineering Services Business Unit specializes in power system software development, consulting studies, compliance testing, and asset management solutions for electric utilities and power industry clients. We develop and deliver DSATools™, a globally recognized, leading-edge software platform for dynamic security assessment of complex power systems, supporting both planning and near–real-time operations.
Our internationally recognized consulting team provides a full range of services, including electromagnetic transient studies, system planning and stability analysis (transient, voltage, frequency, and small-signal), disturbance investigations, interconnection studies, renewable integration (wind and solar), load modeling and validation, and NERC compliance (e.g., TPL, PRC, MOD, CIP). We also leverage advanced technologies such as Real-Time Digital Simulation (RTDS) to evaluate and test control, protection, and communication systems.
The Senior Power System Modelling Engineer will perform model validation and control tuning for generation plants, including wind, solar, and energy storage systems, as well as conducting validation and simulation studies in compliance with NERC and other applicable reliability standards. Key responsibilities include :
- Reviewing power plant technical documentation and prepare unit-specific test plans in accordance with applicable standards and project requirements
- Conducting power system simulation studies aligned with NERC and other reliability standards
- Preparing detailed engineering reports communicating methodologies, analysis, and findings
- Performing peer reviews of technical reports to ensure quality and compliance
- Travel to industrial and power generation sites globally to perform onsite generator model validation testing
- Developing technical proposals, including scope, cost estimates, and project schedules
- Collaborate with internal teams, clients, and stakeholders to ensure successful executio
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems strongly preferred); Bachelor’s degree with direct & relevant experience will be considered
- At least 5 years of work experience in power system transient stability studies, protection & control, or related post-grad research. At the Specialist Engineer level, at least 8 years of experience is required.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of generator and renewable modeling, power system and/or substation protections, and control systems of synchronous generators, renewables, FACTs, etc.
- Knowledge and demonstrated experiences in power plant (thermal, solar, wind, BESS, etc.) power flow, dynamic and short circuit analysis using simulation software (PSCAD, DSATools, PSS/E, PSLF, ASPEN, ETAP, etc.).
- Knowledge and demonstrated experiences in power plant and generator protection and control theory and practice on relay instruments (SEL, Beckwith, GE Multilin, etc.).
- Experiences on site commissioning and testing including regular field work following procedures, data collection using digital DAQ systems, control equipment function and communication troubleshooting, safety training and awareness, considered as an asset
